The Majlis Course at Emirates Golf Club, located in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, holds the distinction of being the first grass golf course in the Middle East and stands as a beacon of golf’s rapid growth in the region. Designed by Karl Litten and opened in 1988, the course winds through a striking desert landscape, seamlessly blending lush fairways with natural sand dunes and indigenous flora.
A signature feature of the Majlis Course is its bold architectural integration with Dubai’s skyline, most notably on the 8th and 9th holes, where the towering backdrop of the city offers a dramatic contrast to the course’s serene and strategic layout. The par-4 8th hole, often highlighted in broadcasts, challenges players with a narrowing fairway and a water hazard guarding the green, demanding precision off the tee and on approach.
The Majlis has been the home of the Dubai Desert Classic since its inception in 1989, attracting the world’s top players and establishing itself as a cornerstone of the European Tour’s Middle East swing. From Ernie Els to Tiger Woods, many of golf’s greats have triumphed here, adding to the course’s prestige. With its unique desert character, championship pedigree, and spectacular surroundings, the Majlis Course remains one of the most revered golfing venues outside of Europe and North America.
