Jack’s Point Golf Course, nestled on the shores of Lake Wakatipu near Queenstown, New Zealand, is a modern marvel that showcases the raw beauty of the South Island’s alpine landscape. Designed by John Darby and opened in 2008, the course is carved between the dramatic Remarkables mountain range and the glacial waters of the lake, offering a rugged yet refined golfing experience that harmonises with its natural surroundings.
A defining characteristic of Jack’s Point is its seamless integration with the land, it was constructed with minimal earth movement, allowing the course to follow the contours of the terrain. The par-5 5th hole is particularly emblematic of this approach, playing downhill with sweeping views over the lake, while demanding strategic shot placement along a fairway bordered by native grasses, schist rock outcrops, and natural wetlands.
Though relatively young compared to storied championship venues, Jack’s Point has quickly earned international acclaim for its design philosophy, environmental sensitivity, and aesthetic grandeur. It regularly features among the top golf courses in New Zealand and the wider Asia-Pacific region, drawing both amateurs and professionals in search of a world-class test in one of the world’s most scenic settings.
