The Old Course at St Andrews Links, situated in St Andrews, Scotland, is revered as the Home of Golf and stands as one of the most iconic and historically significant golf courses globally. A distinctive aspect of the Old Course is its seven expansive double greens, a design born out of necessity when golfers played the same holes in both directions.
The 17th hole, known as the Road Hole, is particularly infamous, this par-4 demands a tee shot over the corner of the Old Course Hotel, followed by an approach that must navigate the treacherous Road Hole bunker and avoid the road itself beyond the green. The 18th hole, meanwhile, is celebrated for the Swilcan Bridge, a 700-year-old stone bridge that has become a symbol of golf's rich heritage.
The Old Course has hosted The Open Championship more times than any other venue, with its first tournament held in 1873. It continues to be a coveted destination for golfers worldwide, offering a challenging yet fair test of skill amidst a backdrop steeped in tradition and history.
