2026-10-30 · Handicaps

The second Internet Invitational, run by Barstool Sports and Bob Does Sports and hosted by Dave Portnoy, brought 64 golf YouTubers, athletes and entertainers to Big Cedar Lodge in Missouri, with a $4 million purse, four times the first one. It comes out in six episodes on YouTube, and two are out. Day 1 is done, and half the field has gone home.

Spoiler warning: this covers Episodes 1 and 2, including who went through.

Where it stands

Team Ruffels and Team Bryan are through to Day 2. Team Finch and Team Dalke are out, and that includes Brad Dalke, the defending champion.

Day 1ResultThrough
Team Bryan v Team Dalke10½ – 5½Team Bryan
Team Ruffels v Team Finch8 – 8, then sudden deathTeam Ruffels

How it works

The 64 players voted for their captains, and the pros won it: Brad Dalke, Wesley Bryan, Peter Finch and Ryan Ruffels. They snake-drafted teams of 16 over 60 picks. Dalke took Tooms first, and The Duke went last, to Team Ruffels, as Mr Irrelevant.

Before a ball was struck, the captains hit one shot each on a 100-yard hole. Ruffels won it after an appeal and a tape measure, which earned $5,000 for every player on his team and the pick of opponent. He chose Finch, which left Dalke against Bryan.

Day 1 at Ozarks National was eight 2v2 scramble matches in the morning and eight alternate shot matches in the afternoon for each pairing: nine holes each, one point a match, no handicaps. The winner of each head-to-head goes through, and a tie is settled by sudden-death alternate shot on the 18th. There's also $500,000 for the first hole in one on each day's Reese's par 3.

The moment: Big John's putt

Team Ruffels and Team Finch couldn't be split over 16 matches, so it went to sudden death on the 18th. On the first extra hole, both teams found the same fairway bunker and made par.

On the second, Big John drove into a bunker and Grant Horvat splashed out close. Roger Steele missed a short birdie putt for Team Finch, and Big John holed his with his Reaper putter to send Team Ruffels through.

Ruffels v Finch: level all day

Team Finch won the morning scramble 4½ – 3½. Finch himself and The Jet were four up through five against Grant Horvat and Riggs and closed it out 4&3 on the 6th green, and Malosi Togisala chipped in on the 6th on the way to a 4&3 win with Cass Marie. For Team Ruffels, Ruffels and Justin Gaethje made an eagle and won 2&1.

The story of the morning was Luke Kwon, who slept in a tent at the course to make his 8am tee time. He and Jason Williams lost 1 up to Big John and Fat Perez.

The afternoon went the other way, 4½ – 3½ to Team Ruffels:

  • Horvat holed on 18 to win 1 up with Justin Gaethje, after Short Game King missed from four feet for the half.
  • Ruffels and Riggs beat Rick Shiels and Martin Borgmeier 5&4.
  • Kwon got his revenge: he and Malosi beat Big John and Fat Perez 2&1, matching Fat Perez's birdie on the 17th to close it out.
  • Then came the first Gruden rule protest. Jon Gruden holed on 17 to go one up for Team Ruffels, and on 18 Francis Ellis holed to halve the match and tie the day 8 – 8.

Bryan v Dalke: one-way traffic

Team Bryan won the morning 6 – 2. Wesley Bryan and Bobby Fairways beat DOD King and Andrew Santino 2&1, with Bobby Fairways holing the winning putt, and Chaz holed on the 9th to halve George Bryan's match against Dalke and Tyler Toney. Team Dalke's only win of the morning came from Tooms and Josh Richards, 3&2 over PFT Commenter and Callux.

The afternoon was closer, 4½ – 3½ to Team Bryan, but it was never in doubt:

  • Wesley Bryan and Bobby Fairways beat Taco and Biz 4&3: two wins from two.
  • Cole Lantz and Seb Carmichael-Brown beat Garrett Clark and Sara Winter again, 3&1 after 4&3 in the morning.
  • Daltoosh came in for Tooms after Team Bryan appealed the pairing, and he and Keith Yandle beat PFT Commenter and Callux 5&4.
  • Cheddy bent his putter on the 14th as he and Kyle Forgeard lost 3&2 to Mason Nutt and Josh Richards.
  • Sam Heung Min and Claire Hogle were four minutes late to the tee and lost the 1st hole, but still halved with DOD King and Andrew Santino.

Day 1 by the numbers

  • 32 matches, 7 of them halved, and 4 decided on the last hole.
  • The biggest wins were all 5&4: Ruffels and Riggs over Rick Shiels and Martin Borgmeier, Paige Spiranac and Jake Adams over Joey Cold Cuts and The Jet, and Keith Yandle and Daltoosh over PFT Commenter and Callux.
  • The captains went 6 – 0 – 2. Finch, Ruffels and Bryan won both their matches; Dalke halved both of his.

Two wins from two: Peter Finch, Ryan Ruffels, Wesley Bryan, Micah Morris, Cole Lantz, Malosi Togisala, Seb Carmichael-Brown, Ryan Whitney, Justin Gaethje, Bobby Fairways and Josh Richards.

Two defeats from two: Garrett Clark, Martin Borgmeier, Johnny Manziel, Sara Winter, Jason Williams, Salim, Callux, Biz, PFT Commenter and The Duke all lost both their matches.

The draft: picks that paid off

The first 12 picks went 11 – 8 – 5 between them. Micah Morris, the 4th pick, won both of his matches, while Garrett Clark, taken 9th, lost both.

Some of the best value came late. Josh Richards (49th), Bobby Fairways (47th) and Justin Gaethje (45th) all went 2 – 0.

Of the 25 matches that weren't halved, the pair with the higher draft pick won 20 and the lower-drafted pair won 5. Those upsets:

  • Big John and Fat Perez beat Luke Kwon, the 3rd pick, and Jason Williams.
  • Cole Lantz and Seb Carmichael-Brown beat Garrett Clark and Sara Winter, twice.
  • Cheddy and Kyle Forgeard beat Biz and Keith Yandle 3&2.
  • Trent Ryan and Jersey Jerry beat Salim and The Duke 1 up, after being three up with three to play and losing the 16th to an 8 v 9 bunker battle.
